About Golden Haus

Who is Golden Haus Dachshunds?

Golden Haus Dachshunds is a small, family Dachshund breeding program led by Charlotte Ivy. We raise AKC-registered puppies in our home with a focus on health, temperament, and thoughtful placement — not high-volume kennel production. Learn more on our About page.

Where are you located? Do you ship puppies?

We raise our puppies in our family home and place them with approved families across the United States. Yes — we offer delivery, including flight nanny, airline shipping, ground transport, airport handoff, and local pickup when appropriate. See our Shipping page for options and typical pricing. Every placement still starts with a proper application.

Are your Dachshund puppies AKC registered?

Yes. Golden Haus Dachshunds puppies come from AKC-registered parents and are eligible for AKC registration paperwork. We walk families through the registration process at go-home time.

What does “home-raised” mean here?

Puppies grow up in our living spaces with daily handling, household sounds, gentle routines, and early socialization. That foundation helps many puppies settle into family life more confidently than kennel-only raising.

Do you breed miniature or standard Dachshunds?

Our program focuses on companion Dachshunds suited to family homes. Exact size expectations for a litter are discussed during matching — Dachshunds vary, and we are honest about parent size and what we expect for each puppy.

Pricing, waitlist & reservation

How much does a Golden Haus Dachshund puppy cost?

Our standard puppy price is $1,100. Final figures are confirmed in writing for your puppy and appear in your reservation or adoption paperwork.

What is the difference between the waitlist and a reservation?

The waitlist ($300) is for upcoming litters when you do not yet have a specific available puppy. A reservation ($750) holds a specific puppy marked Available on our Available Puppies page after your application is approved.

Is the waitlist fee refundable? Does it count toward the price?

Yes — the $300 waitlist fee is refundable if you withdraw before you are matched to a specific puppy, and it is applied toward the $1,100 purchase price when you adopt. See the Waitlist Agreement for full terms.

Is the reservation fee refundable?

The $750 reservation fee is refundable if you withdraw before go-home, and it is applied toward the $1,100 price (leaving about $350 due at pickup, subject to your written confirmation). After adoption/transfer, sales are final as stated in the Adoption Contract.

How do I reserve a puppy?

Browse Available Puppies, submit a reservation application, and after approval pay the $750 reservation fee to hold your chosen puppy. Details are on our Adoption Process page.

How do I join the waitlist?

If no current puppy is the right fit, join the waitlist, complete the form, and pay the $300 waitlist fee. That fee credits toward $1,100 when you are matched. Start on the Waitlist page.

Does submitting an application guarantee a puppy?

No. Applications help us learn about your home and preferences. Placement depends on approval, timing, litter availability, and finding a temperament match. Sometimes we ask you to wait for a better fit.

What payment methods do you accept?

We confirm accepted payment methods when your application is approved (commonly bank transfer, cashier’s check, or other secure options we name in writing). Avoid sending full card numbers by unsecured email. Contact us at contact@goldenhausdachshund.com if you have payment questions.

What if I am not approved or no puppy is the right fit?

Sometimes the timing or match is not right, and that is okay. We would rather wait for the right home than force a placement. You are welcome to reapply for a future litter.

Health, paperwork & what’s included

Do you offer a health guarantee?

Yes. Every puppy leaves with veterinary records and a written health guarantee. Lifetime support for care and settling-in questions is also part of our promise. The signed guarantee document controls the exact coverage.

What is included when I bring my puppy home?

A home-raised Dachshund puppy, pre-purchase vet exam, age-appropriate vaccines and deworming, health records, written health guarantee, feeding and routine guidance, AKC registration guidance, and lifetime breeder support. The full $1,100 purchase covers the puppy and these inclusions as described in your adoption paperwork.

When do puppies typically go home?

Puppies generally go home around 8 weeks of age, once veterinary checks, age-appropriate vaccines, and early socialization milestones are complete. Exact timing can vary slightly by litter.

Will my puppy be vaccinated and dewormed?

Yes. Puppies leave with age-appropriate core vaccinations and deworming on a schedule suited to the litter. You receive written records to share with your veterinarian for boosters and ongoing care.

Do you health-test the parents?

We prioritize sound structure, temperament, and responsible pairings, and we partner with a veterinarian for puppy wellness before go-home. Ask us about the specific parents of the litter you are considering — we share what testing and history apply to that pairing.

Where can I read the legal agreements?

You can review our Waitlist Agreement, Reservation Agreement, and Adoption Contract on the site before you commit. Terms of Service and Privacy Policy also explain website use and how we handle your information.

Coats, colors & temperament

What coat types and colors do you breed?

Our program includes long coat, smooth coat, and wire coat Dachshunds in classic colors such as black and tan, chocolate, cream, red, and dapple patterns depending on the litter.

Which coat type is easiest to care for?

Smooth coats are usually the lowest maintenance between baths. Long coats need regular brushing to prevent tangles. Wire coats have a rustic texture and their own grooming rhythm. Temperament matters more than coat — choose the look you will happily maintain.

What is a dapple Dachshund?

Dapple (merle) Dachshunds have mottled or patched coat patterning. Availability depends on the litter. We discuss responsible color pairings and what to expect when a dapple puppy is available.

What temperament should I expect?

Dachshunds are typically loyal, curious, and people-oriented, with big personalities in a small frame. Individual puppies vary — some are bold and playful, others calmer cuddlers. We share personality notes to help you choose a good match.

Are Dachshunds good with kids and other pets?

Many do wonderfully in family homes with respectful children and proper introductions. Success depends on supervision, training, and the individual puppy. Tell us about kids, cats, or other dogs on your application so we can advise honestly.

Are Dachshunds good apartment dogs?

They can thrive in apartments when they get daily walks, enrichment, and potty opportunities. They are watchful and may bark, so early manners and mental exercise matter as much as square footage.

Living with a Dachshund

Do you help with first-time Dachshund owners?

Absolutely. Many of our families are welcoming their first Dachshund. We provide practical guidance on crates, routines, back-safe handling, and what to expect in those early weeks — plus lifetime support when questions come up later.

Why do people talk about Dachshund back problems?

Dachshunds have long backs and short legs, so they can be prone to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Keep your dog lean, use ramps for furniture, carry puppies on stairs, and avoid repeated high jumping. See our Health & Care page for more tips.

How much exercise does a Dachshund puppy need?

Short, frequent play and potty breaks beat long exhausting outings. Sniff walks, gentle play, and puzzle toys tire their minds without stressing a growing spine. Your vet can help set safe exercise as they mature.

How do I house-train a Dachshund puppy?

Take them out after waking, eating, playing, and before bed. Use a crate or pen for supervised downtime, celebrate outdoor successes immediately, and keep the go-home routine consistent for the first week. Patience beats punishment.

What should I feed my new puppy?

Stick with the go-home food and schedule for several days. If you switch brands, transition gradually over about 7–10 days. Measure portions to keep a lean body condition — extra weight stresses joints and the back.

Do Dachshunds need a lot of grooming?

It depends on coat. Smooth coats need basic wipe-downs and occasional baths. Long coats need frequent brushing. Wire coats benefit from the right stripping or trim routine. All coats need nail, ear, and dental care.

Are Dachshunds hard to train?

They are smart and sometimes stubborn. Short, positive, reward-based sessions work best. Keep training fun, consistent, and back-safe. We include starter training tips at go-home and remain available for questions.

Can Dachshunds be left alone during the workday?

Adult dogs can often handle reasonable alone time with crate or pen training, potty plans, and enrichment. Puppies need more frequent breaks. Tell us your schedule on the application so we can discuss realistic expectations.

Visits, travel & pickup

Can I visit the puppies or meet the parents?

Approved families may arrange a visit or video meet-and-greet when timing and litter schedules allow. We are happy to share parent photos, videos, and temperament notes as well.

Can you hold a puppy while I arrange travel?

In many cases, yes. Once your deposit or reservation fee is received and pickup timing is agreed, we can coordinate a practical go-home window. Share your travel plans early so we can plan together.

What should I bring on pickup day?

Bring a secure travel crate or carrier, a towel or bed with a familiar scent if you have one, and any final payment arrangements we confirmed. We pack go-home records, feeding notes, and care guidance for you.

Do you deliver puppies?

Yes. We offer delivery for approved families — flight nanny, airline shipping, specialized ground service, airport pickup with us, or a local meet-up. Costs vary by distance and method; exact quotes are confirmed before you commit. Full details are on our Shipping page.
